Meet the artist

For many years Painting has been my main interest developing compositions from sketches, these are done when- ever the opportunity arises, holiday times have been a wonderful time for recording events and places in note form and pictorial representation. I have found that I have learnt a lot about watercolour as a medium and how I can use colour washes on their own or the enhance drawings
I loved my time at Art College going out to sketch in the town returning to the studio to recreate a composition Studying and drawing local Cotswold architecture. The discipline of observation and drawing was fundamental to the course. Clay work, weaving, life drawing etching. Sometimes the day would run from 9 in the morning till 9 at night.

Before Pat moved to Somerset in the early 60’s she gained her National Diploma in Design at Cheltenham College of Art, and her Art Teachers Diploma at the West of England College Bristol. After a short while in Wollaston nr. Stourbride She moved to Bradford on Tone 1964 then onto Northbrook Lodge, Taunton 1967 with her husband Tom and 2Boys Jonathan and Jason, Edward and Ruth were born early 70’s she has painted consistently showing her work in local and regional exhibitions such as the South West Academy Exeter, Bath Academy and the Royal West of England, Bristol; and also has had one man shows at the Brewhouse Taunton, Bridgwater arts Centre and the Post Graduate Centre Bristol.
Pat belonged to the Somerset Society of Artists and the Chandos Society Bridgwater

I felt that I needed to continue doing my art work even when the children were small.

Joining a society gave me an opportunity to show my work to see the paintings separate from myself At first I kept my materials in a box on a trolley which was very good because I could move it to wherever I needed to work Later on a room became available with a good light as it was over the kitchen I still felt part of family life. Later I moved to a studio separate from the house The large window looks out onto the garden with our house beyond. It is a good thinking place with all my sketch books on shelves where I can reach them so that I can play with ideas.
